I am a lecturer in the Dept. of Computer Science, Queen Mary and Westfield College, University of London. I was awarded the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National University of Singapore in 2002, under the supervision of Dr. Cheong Loong-Fah and Dr. Ong Sim-Heng. My Ph.D. research is on 3-D Computer Vision and Visual Perception. I also received the B. Eng. degree in Electrical Engineering from Xi'an Jiaotong University in 1995, and the M. Eng. degree in Electronic Engineering from Communication University of China in 1998. In 2001, I joined the Dept. of Computer Science, Queen Mary and Westfield College, University of London as a Postdoctoral Research Assistant. As a member of the Vision Group, I first worked on the DTI and EPSRC funded project ICONS (Incident Recognition for Surveillance and Security) and then the EPSRC and MOD DSTL jointly funded project INSIGHT (Video Analysis and Selective Zooming using Semantic Models of Human Presence and Absence).

Research Interests

My research interests include computer vision, image processing, statistical learning, sequential data analysis, pattern recognition, machine learning, and data mining.

I have been working on the following research topics:

  • Behaviour Profiling and Abnormal Behaviour Detection
  • Model Selection for Unsupervised Learning
  • Group Activity Modelling
  • Dynamic Bayesian Networks
  • Surveillance Video Indexing
  • Event Detection and Recognition
  • 3-D Reconstruction from Motion
  • Error Analysis on Structure from Motion Algorithms
